Middle School Rowing

Maritime Rowing Club’s middle school program draws rowers from all over Fairfield County, who train as the Maritime Rowing Club Middle School Team. The Middle School program is organized by season: Fall Season runs September through mid-November; Winter Training runs from mid-November through the end of December; Spring Season begins in early March and runs through early June; Summer Season runs from June through August.

Middle School rowers start out rowing in a 12-person sweep boat, which allows for up to 12 rowers to practice at a time, with a coach on-board to provide hands-on instruction. Athletes then learn the basics of sweep rowing and sculling, developing their skills and working together as a team. Middle school rowers participate in either the St. Luke’s Invitational regatta or the New Canaan Invitational regatta, depending on the season. (Both regattas are local, on the Norwalk River.)

In addition to on-water rowing technique, middle school rowers are taught boat handling, safety on the water, as well as indoor rowing technique on the ergometer (aka, rowing machine.)

Maritime Rowing Club’s Junior Programs are designed to help athletes improve in all aspects: fitness, strength, flexibility, mental toughness, discipline, etc. Our junior programs are tailored to fit middle school athletes all the way up to international level high school athletes.
